Exciting, multi-talented, rising young artist Adrianne Evans returns to The Alluvion with her hip new quartet, an ensemble of some the highest level students from Michigan State University. Drawing from their diverse musical backgrounds and shared passion for jazz, this group of young professionals brings fresh interpretations to timeless jazz standards.

ADRIANNE EVANS - VOCALS
Adrianne Evans is a young musician from Traverse City, Michigan. Growing up alongside the music scene in her hometown, she has been making music for as long as she can remember. Adrianne is currently studying jazz bass under the direction of Distinguished Professor, Rodney Whitaker, as well as voice with Grammy Award winning Carmen Bradford. Adrianne hopes to inspire and bring together audiences with her dedication to the music and to the jazz tradition.
ALONSO UMANA - DRUMS
Alonso Umaña is a Costa Rican-born, Mexico-raised drummer recently obtained a master’s degree at Michigan State University. A recipient of the Latin Grammy Foundation Tuition Assistance Scholarship, he earned his bachelor’s degree from City College of New York in 2020 and has studied with acclaimed artists including Greg Hutchinson, Ali Jackson, and Antonio Sánchez. Alonso has performed with renowned musicians such as Brian Lynch, Rodney Whitaker, Walter Blanding, and Steve Wilson. Mentored by Ali Jackson, who produced his debut album Rule of Nature (2022), Alonso later returned to Mexico City, becoming active in the contemporary jazz scene before releasing his second album Fo’Nection (2024). In 2023, he received the Bosphorus Outstanding Drummer Award at the Concurso de Jazz de México and became a Bosphorus Cymbals Artist.
He has two releases as a leader: Rule of Nature (2022) and Fo’Nection (2024).

ALEX HOBERTY - BASS
Alex Hoberty is a bassist, bandleader, composer, and arranger from Indianapolis, Indiana. A recipient of the Ella Fitzgerald Scholarship, she is a student and keeper of the Jazz tradition. She has performed with notable artists such as Fabian Almazan, Jason Moran, Steven Feifke, Walter Blanding, Ashlin Parker, Greg Ward II, Rodney Whitaker, Dave Stryker, Sean Dobbins, Randy Napoleon, Angel Subero, and Jamey Aebersold. She is a Geri Allen Fellow and member of the Gathering Orchestra.
At only 22 years old, Alex has performed at numerous jazz festivals nationwide. She has performed twice at the Detroit Jazz Festival, the first time as a finalist in the DJF Collegiate Combo Competition, and the second time as a member of the DJF Collegiate Jazz Orchestra featuring pianist Jason Moran. She has also performed at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, the A2 Jazz Festival, and the Carmel Jazz festivals, in addition to venues like the Blue Llama, the Alluvion, the Jazz Kitchen, the Chatterbox, the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, and the historic French Lick and West Baden Springs Resorts. Most recently, she competed in the National Collegiate Jazz Championships at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Her works have been premiered by Indiana University’s premiere jazz ensemble and the Gathering Orchestra in Detroit.
Alex is a Masters Student and Graduate Teaching Assistant at Michigan State University, where she studies with renowned bassist and educator Rodney Whitaker. She completed her undergraduate degree at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music in 2025, where she studied under bassists Christian Dillingham and Jeremy Allen.
ALVIN PAIGE - SAX
Alvin Paige is a young and upcoming saxophonist hailing from San Diego, California. He began playing the saxophone at the age of 8 and since then has been dedicated to improving his craft and continuing the jazz tradition through his unique perspective. Through his hard work, and the connections he has made, Alvin has had the fortune to work with jazz legends such as Charles McPherson, Rodney Whitaker, Wynton Marsalis, and many others. Alvin always comes to play and brings a raw soulful sound every time he steps onto the bandstand.
ANDREW BROWN - TRUMPET
Andrew Brown is a young up and coming musician, producer, educator, and artist from Dearborn, Michigan. Just recently graduating from the jazz program at Michigan State University on trumpet, he is currently teaching K-8 general music at a charter school by day, and performing and creating music by night. Still only 22, Andrew has already played with and studied with many of the best musicians on the Detroit, American, and worldwide jazz scenes. You can hear influences of all genres in his music, which he hopes can ultimately bring people together.

MAX GAGE - PIANO
Max Gage is a young self-taught jazz pianist from Grand Rapids, Michigan who has quickly become a staple in the Michigan jazz scene. Max has performed with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony and has been a resident pianist at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Max frequently performs with ensembles led by jazz artists Walter Blanding and Michael Dease, while also leading his own groups. His musical career has taken him across the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Japan, and he is currently completing a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies at Michigan State University.
