Places shape art — and when those places are lost, creativity and community suffer too.

The LA music scene has long been a home and an inspiration for countless artists, songwriters, and performers. In the wake of the devastating LA fires, many musicians have lost not only homes, but also the spaces where their creativity thrived.

On April 2nd, The Alluvion will host a benefit concert to support these artists through MusiCares, a nonprofit providing direct relief to music professionals in crisis. Every dollar from ticket sales goes directly to MusiCares, helping musicians rebuild what’s been lost.

Featuring performances by:

Ava DiSimone

Tim Jones

Agnes Su & The Dear Companions

Dylan Tull

Rose Morris

Matt McCalpin

AVA DISIMONE

Ava DiSimone is a singer with a Kate Bush style eccentricity and a Liz Phair edge. She creates a genre all her own with her spectacular vocals and songs. Ava is a graduate of both Interlochen Center for the Arts and Berklee School of Music.

TIM JONES

Tim Jones is a powerhouse vocalist, a “Chauffeur of Soul” and once LA resident who has contributed to hundreds of records including collaborations with Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes, Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket, the Hotel Cafe Tour, and co-produced his projects Truth & Salvage Co. and Whiskey Wolves of the West, as well as written songs for Shelly Fairchild, Jaime McLean, Tony Lucca, Szlachetka, Emily West and Nicki Bluhm. He has also led songwriting workshops with Art of Elysium, Country Music Hall of Fame, Alive Hospice, Kilpatrick, Townsend & Stockton, Interlochen Center for the Arts, CreatiVets and Stories That Heal with Molly Sturges.

AGNES SU & THE DEAR COMPANIONS

Agnes Su is a fifteen year old songwriter, multi instrumentalist, and aspiring Folklorist living in Northern Michigan. She began her career in music when she was five years old by studying and performing suzuki violin with the Grand Rapids Strings Academy. Agnes has since worked with Hawks and Owls String Band, Major Murphy, and the local celtic band, HAMMER’d. She is currently studying songwriting at Interlochen Arts Academy, and she’s got a Country Western heart. Her band, The Dear Companions, features the wonderful Brooke Hawkins, Austin Jessup, SkyeLea Martin, and Fenton Lio.

MATT MCCALPIN

Matt McCalpin is a guitarist, a songwriter, and is completely obsessed with music. Based in Traverse City, MI, he learned how to play guitar in LA, and learned how to write songs in Nashville. Always leaning towards that funk-soul-jazz thing (Medicinal Groove, Dawn Campbell & The Bohemians, wtrbd, Funky Uncle.) Focused on original music with a unique, raw, vintage sound, his solo releases are more like if a singer songwriter based their tradition on Sly and the Family Stone rather than Bob Dylan. But he truly loves all music, drawing inspiration from every note that he hears.

ROSE MORRIS

Rose Morris is 17 years old, and grew up in Los Angeles, California. She was a Vocal Arts student at an arts school in LA before she made the decision to transfer to the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan as a singer-songwriter, on a scholarship. All her life she's known that music was as important to her survival as air. Because of that, she's lived her life accordingly. She's never without music. Whether she's singing to herself during every moment of silence, fiddling with the guitar whenever she has the chance, or drumming on the table with her fingers. She's played gigs at The Whisky A Go Go and has recently released her first ever single! You can find her busking on the streets of Los Angeles and hanging out with her sisters and her dog!

A SHORT FILM BY DYLAN TULL

ABOUT THE FILM: This experimental short film was crafted as an entry for Rick Rubin's content creation contest, which challenged filmmakers to repurpose material from his official website into original short-form content.

Using cutting-edge AI technology, I developed a custom scraping tool to thoughtfully harvest visual and audio elements from Rubin's digital presence. After curating a selection of compelling moments, I employed artificial intelligence to craft a cohesive narrative structure around my initial edit. The production was further enhanced with an AI-generated voice simulation of Rubin himself, seamlessly filling narrative gaps and creating a unified viewing experience.

The entire project—from conception to completion—was executed in just 48 hours, serving as a fascinating exploration of the creative synergy between artificial intelligence and traditional editing methodologies. Rather than imposing a predetermined narrative, I allowed the story to reveal itself organically through the curation & creation process.

The resulting film embodies the enigmatic and philosophical nature of Rubin's own artistic sensibilities, naturally reflecting his distinctive worldview and creative approach. This project stands as a testament to the evolving relationship between human creativity and technological innovation in contemporary filmmaking.

Music is built in the places we call home — rehearsal rooms, garages, basements, backyards, and local venues. When those spaces disappear, the art they foster is at risk too.

Come for the music, stay for the cause, and help us honor the connection between place, art, and community.
