Embrace the transformative power of music with Marcus Elliot's latest offering, 'Broken Seeds Vol. II.' Like seeds breaking open to sprout into towering trees, Elliot's compositions burgeon from humble origins into lush sonic landscapes when performed by his ensemble. Drawing from the rich musical soil of Detroit's burgeoning scene, Elliot assembles a cadre of young, dynamic musicians, some of whom were once his own students. In this symbiotic relationship of mentorship and collaboration, Elliot sees echoes of his own growth, honoring the lineage of artistic development. With each note, 'Broken Seeds Vol. II' becomes not just a collection of songs, but a vehicle for metamorphosis, inviting listeners to embark on a journey of profound musical evolution.

Marcus

MARCUS ELLIOTT - SAX

Multifaceted saxophonist and composer, Marcus Elliot, has emerged as one of the leading voices of the Detroit music scene. The New York Times has called him "convincing and confident, evolved in touch and tone...", and the Detroit Free Press has said, "Marcus Elliot represents next generation of jazz". Marcus creates music with the hope of “reminding myself and listeners that we are human beings, and what a gift that is.” He is a recipient of the Joyce Awards (2024), a prestigious award for innovative new projects by pioneered by artists spanning the visual, performing, and multidisciplinary arts that engage diverse communities in the Mid-West. He is also a recipient of the Kresge Fellowship(2020), awarded to artist that are recognized for their creative vision and commitment to excellence within a wide range of artistic disciplines. Marcus is instructor of jazz saxophone at Wayne State University and is director of the Creative Arts Orchestra at University of Michigan. Marcus has performed and/or collaborated with Terence Blanchard, Karriem Riggins, Talib Kwali, Marcus Belgrave, Brian Eno, Shigeto, Robert Hurst, Anthony Davis, Jeff Tain Watts, and many others.

PAYTON MILLER - VIBRAPHONE

Peyton Miller, 18-year-old, award-winning composer, vibraphonist and percussionist tells stories. He uses a range of diverse textures to paint sonic pictures and believes that what’s behind the music is an integral part of how the music should be played. Miller is also a classical pianist and conductor.

Jordan

JORDAN ANDERSON - PIANO

Jordan is a Detroit-based pianist, keyboardist, organist and composer. Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, he started playing piano at 7 and developed an instant connection to the instrument. His musical upbringing is largely defined by the funky sounds of Minneapolis, the West African music of his Cameroonian mother, and his first jazz teachers, who were Detroit-born musicians. These teachers, Solomon Parham and Kevin Washington, soon became close mentors who helped him navigate the language of Black American Music, preparing him for a subsequent years of mentorship in the city of Detroit.

Jordan was awarded his BFA in Jazz Studies at University of Michigan in Spring 2020, where he had the privilege of studying under Benny Green, Andy Milne, and Bob Hurst. In spring 2023 he received his Master’s degree in Jazz Studies at Michigan State University studying with jazz master Xavier Davis.

Onstage, he has collaborated with Rodney Whitaker, Robert Hurst, Vincent Chandler, Wendell Harrison, Karriem Riggins, Desean Jones, and Marion Hayden. He has been a featured performer at the Detroit Jazz Festival, Twin Cities Jazz Festival, Iowa City Jazz Festival, Ann Arbor Jazz Festival, and East Lansing Jazz Festival. Jordan is also featured on upcoming releases (Summer 2024) with Detroit-based groups “BIG FELLAS” and Kasan Belgrave.

Noah

NOAH JACKSON - BASS

Noah Jackson is a bassist, cellist, composer, and curator from Detroit, Michigan. As a member of NEA Jazz Master Abdullah Ibrahim's ensemble Ekaya, Mr. Jackson has performed internationally to critical acclaim and recorded the latest album, The Balance, released in 2019 which reached #3 on the Billboard Jazz Charts (July 2019). He has also recorded Nnenna Freelon’s latest release- Time Traveler which has reached #4 on Jazz Week (July 2021). Mr. Jackson has also performed with Nnenna Freelon, Branford Marsalis, The Marsalis Family, Kenny Garrett, Jason Marsalis, George Burton, Jazzmeia Horn, Christian Sands, and Winard Harper. Noah Jackson is also a member of the Recording Academy.

Caleb

CALEB ROBINSON - DRUMS

Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, Caleb Robinson is a multi-talented drummer who has been playing and learning the craft since the young age of three. He was inspired by watching his father play the drums at his grandparent’s church, and soon received his first pair of drumsticks to play at church, too. Under the early tutelage of his father, he learned the ins and outs of drumming while also teaching himself along the way. He later studied under percussion instructor/coach John Hill who’s on the faculty at the Flint School of Performing Arts.
