Nancy Stagnitta's Musical Trilogy: A Flutist's Journey - Classical, Jazz, and Funk

  • The Alluvion 414 East Eighth Street Traverse City, MI, 49686 United States (map)

Doors open at 7 - Music starts at 7:30 - $25 advance tickets - $30 at the door
This will be a fully seated listening room style show.

Nancy Stagnitta has deservedly and gracefully performed at The Alluvion more than most any other artist since the venue opened. Not only is she prolific in the amount of appearances on our stage, but her variety of musical styles is just as impressive. Nancy has the rare talent of being able to seamlessly play three different genres, and play them well. She boldly travels to new creative places in pursuit of the challenge and excitement that it results in.

November 9th will be an outstanding program showcasing Nancy performing all three forms of music that she is passionate about in one night with three different accompanying bands. In addition to this, a very special guest will be joining her for all three sets: one of her major inspirations: the legendary "Renaissance Man of the Flute" Jim Walker.

THE CLASSICAL SET: Nancy and Jim will be accompanied by pianist Ya-Ju Chuang for classical works from Georg Telemann to Mike Mower.

THE JAZZ SET: Nancy and Jim will play exciting jazz standards, and other jazz selections alongside The Jeff Haas Trio featuring Jeff Haas on piano, Randy Marsh on drums, and Jack Dryden on bass.

THE FUNK SET: Nancy and Jim will finish the night playing with the band Funky Uncle grooving on some tasty, soulful funk tunes.

This is a one of a kind concert unlike any program that Nancy has played before. Come experience this incredible musical journey live. A true trilogy.

JIM WALKER

Few other flutists in history have made such indelible marks in so many musical circles. From jazz to pop to classical, television to film to the concert hall, conservatory to the university, Jim Walker has never met a crowd or student that didn’t love his powerful, “stand and deliver” message.
His star began to rise when in 1969, when Jim was named Associate Principal Flute in the Pittsburgh Symphony after a stint playing in the US Military Academy Band at West Point. He quickly gained the admiration of colleagues and audiences in Pittsburgh and set his sights on Principal Flute jobs. After eight years in Pittsburgh, he won the Principal Flute position in the Los Angeles Philharmonic and never looked back.
